Buyer's FAQ
Conference table questions, answered
What size conference table do I need for 8, 10, 12, or 16 people?
Allow about 24 inches of table edge per seat plus room at the head. As a guide, an 8-foot table seats about 8 people, a 10-foot table seats 8 to 10, a 12-foot table seats 10 to 12, and a 16-foot table seats 16 to 18. Our conference tables run from 8 to 16 feet so you can match the table to the room and the headcount.
What are standard conference table dimensions?
Office conference tables stand 29 to 30 inches high, the same working height as a desk. Depth runs 42 to 60 inches depending on the size and base. Length is what scales with seat count: 96 inches (8 ft), 120 inches (10 ft), 144 inches (12 ft), and 192 inches (16 ft) are the common sizes, and they are the lengths we build.
How do I measure a room for a conference table?
Leave 36 to 42 inches of clearance on every side so chairs pull out and people can walk behind seated guests, plus a little extra for any walkway, door swing, or AV credenza. For a 16-foot table that puts the minimum room around 25 by 13 feet, and a more comfortable boardroom around 28 by 16 feet.
Rectangular, boat-shaped, racetrack, or tapered: what is the difference?
Rectangular tables are the standard for boardrooms and seat the most people for the footprint. Tapered (sightline) tables narrow toward the ends so everyone has a clear view down the table, which helps on video calls and presentations. Boat-shaped tables bow out in the middle, and racetrack tables round off the corners. We currently build rectangular and tapered conference tables.
Can I get a conference table with power and data at the surface?
Yes. The 8-foot model ships with a built-in recessed power, USB, and data module integrated into the top. The 10, 12, and 16-foot tables are built for an optional power module, with a center channel or panel base that routes cables cleanly out of sight. Tell us your power and data needs when you order.
Are your conference tables solid wood?
No, and that is deliberate. The tops are furniture-grade engineered wood with a thermally-fused laminate surface, the same surface specification used in Steelcase and Herman Miller-grade office furniture. A real solid-wood top at conference length would cost three to five times as much and would cup and crack as humidity changes. Engineered wood with TFL stays flat and scratch-resistant under daily use.
How are they made and how long do they take?
Every table is American-made, custom-built to order at our US factory partner in Dallas and Los Angeles. Build time is 2 to 4 weeks, then the table ships by freight, with transit typically a few business days on top. Most tops are a substantial 1-1/8 inch thick with a durable edge.
What does shipping cost and what is the warranty?
Free curbside and dock freight shipping to the continental US. Inside delivery and white-glove placement are available as add-ons. Every table is backed by a 15-year structural warranty, with a 2-year warranty on the laminate surface.
Conference table buying guide: sizes, shapes, materials, and power
How to choose a conference table
Start with the room, not the table. Measure the meeting room and subtract 36 to 42 inches of clearance on every side so chairs can pull out and people can move behind seated guests. Whatever length is left is the longest table the room can take. Then check it against your headcount, because a table that seats more people than the room can hold comfortably is the most common mistake buyers make.
The seating math is simple. Each person needs about 24 inches of table edge, and you lose a little to the ends. That gives a working guide you can plan around:
| Table length | Seats | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 8 ft (96") | ~8 | Small conference rooms and team huddles |
| 10 ft (120") | 8 to 10 | Department meetings and training rooms |
| 12 ft (144") | 10 to 12 | Boardroom presentations and video conferencing |
| 16 ft (192") | 16 to 18 | Dedicated boardrooms seating a full board |
We build the 8, 10, 12, and 16-foot sizes. If you fall between two sizes, size down if the room is tight and size up if you regularly host extra people along the walls.
Bases change the look and the price. A trestle or panel base gives a clean, modern profile; a four-leg rectangular base reads more traditional and architectural; a tapered three-pedestal base pairs with the sightline top. The two 16-foot tables show the choice directly: the panel-base version is the value pick and the four-leg boardroom version is the premium upgrade.
Conference table shapes
Shape changes how the room feels and how well people can see each other. The four common shapes are rectangular, tapered, boat-shaped, and racetrack.
Rectangular is the workhorse. It seats the most people for a given footprint and suits almost any boardroom. Tapered (also called a sightline table) narrows toward the ends so no one is blocked by the person beside them, which is why it is a favorite for presentation rooms and video calls. Boat-shaped tables bow outward at the center to give people at the ends a clearer line of sight, and racetrack tables soften a rectangle with rounded ends for easier traffic flow. Our current line focuses on the two shapes that fit the most boardrooms, rectangular and tapered. We do not yet make boat-shaped or racetrack tables.
Materials: why engineered wood with TFL
Every top is furniture-grade engineered wood finished with thermally-fused laminate, the same surface specification used in Steelcase and Herman Miller-grade office furniture. We are transparent: this is not solid wood. Solid wood at conference length would run three to five times the cost and would cup, crack, and ring as office humidity swings through the year. Engineered wood with a TFL surface stays dimensionally stable and resists scratches, heat, and water. Most tops are a substantial 1-1/8 inch thick, and the laminate cleans up with a microfiber cloth and warm water. Each table is available in multiple finishes; see the individual table pages for current options.
Power, data, and cable management
A conference table earns its keep when the cables disappear. The 8-foot model ships with a built-in recessed power, USB, and data module set into the top, with an internal wire chase and a management basket below. The 10, 12, and 16-foot tables are engineered for an optional power module, and their panel and pedestal bases hide the routing in a center channel between sections. Decide how many power and data drops you need before ordering so we can configure the base to match.
Prices, lead time, and delivery
Our conference tables run from about $3,599 to $5,899 depending on size and base. Every table is American-made and custom-built to order at our US factory partner in Dallas and Los Angeles, with a 2 to 4 week build time before it ships. Freight delivery to the continental US is free, curbside or dock; inside delivery and white-glove placement are available as add-ons. Each table carries a 15-year structural warranty and a 2-year surface warranty. For trade, B2B, or volume quotes, reach out before ordering and we will price the project and confirm lead time.
