What size conference table do I need for 8, 10, 12, or 16 people?
Allow about 30 inches of table edge per person for a laptop and papers, with one seat at each end. Squeezed shoulder to shoulder at 24 inches along the sides, the same table holds a few more. As a guide, an 8-foot table seats 8, a 10-foot table seats 10, a 12-foot table seats 10 with laptop room and up to 12, a 16-foot table seats 14 and up to 16 along the sides, or 18 with a seat at each end, and a 20-foot boardroom table seats 18 and up to 20. What are standard conference table dimensions?
Office conference tables stand 29 to 30 inches high, the same working height as a desk. Depth runs 42 to 60 inches depending on the size and base. Length is what scales with seat count: 96 inches (8 ft), 120 inches (10 ft), 144 inches (12 ft), 192 inches (16 ft), and 240 inches (20 ft) are the common sizes, and they are the lengths we build.
How do I measure a room for a conference table?
Measure from the table edge to the wall. Leave at least 3 feet so chairs pull out, and 4 feet if people need to walk behind seated guests, plus extra for a door swing or a credenza. For a 16-foot table that puts the room at about 22 ft x 10 ft 6 in at the minimum and 24 ft x 12 ft 6 in with room to walk behind. Our conference room size calculator does the math for your room.
Rectangular, boat-shaped, racetrack, or tapered: what is the difference?
Rectangular tables are the standard for boardrooms and seat the most people for the footprint. Tapered (sightline) tables narrow toward the ends so everyone has a clear view down the table, which helps on video calls and presentations. Boat-shaped tables bow out in the middle, and racetrack tables round off the corners. We currently build rectangular and tapered conference tables.
Can I get a conference table with power and data at the surface?
Yes. The 8-foot model ships with a built-in recessed power, USB, and data module integrated into the top. The 10, 12, and 16-foot tables are built for an optional power module, with a center channel or panel base that routes cables cleanly out of sight. Tell us your power and data needs when you order.
How do I get power to the table, and where do the cables go?
This is the question worth asking before you choose a base, because the base is what hides the cabling.
On our laminate panel bases there is a small swing door built into one side, with a pull on it. You open it, plug in or unplug, and close it. No crawling under the table and no dismantling anything to reach an outlet. Inside, the base carries a wire trough with about 12 inches of width and just under 6 inches of height to work with, which is enough for a power brick and a strip rather than just a bare cable. Where a base sits in a set, the adjacent panel comes with a grommet already in it, and the square bases are hollow top to bottom so cable can drop straight through to a floor feed.
Metal-leg bases are the other option. They cost less and look lighter in a room, but there is nothing to hide cable inside, so cords run in the open or down to a floor box. That is the real trade between the two, more than looks.
Power in the tabletop itself is a separate choice: a powered grommet can be built into the surface, and whether it works depends on the table size and which base it sits on. Each product page states the base for that table, and if you tell us where you want the power we will confirm it before you order.
How does a conference table ship and arrive?
The 8 foot tables have a single-piece top. From 10 through 16 feet the top arrives in two sections, and the 20 foot boardroom table arrives in three. The sections join on site along the length of the table.
One thing worth knowing before you order a longer table: the wood grain will not line up perfectly across a seam. It is a joined surface, not a single slab, and matching grain across a 16 or 20 foot span is not something we will promise and then miss.
Everything arrives on a pallet in a handful of large, mostly assembled pieces rather than as a box of parts. Shipping is free anywhere in the continental US, delivered curbside or to a loading dock. Inside delivery, white glove placement and assembly are available as paid add-ons.

How to choose a conference table
Start with the room, not the table. Measure the meeting room and leave a clear path on every side: 36 inches measured from the back of a pulled-out chair, the federal accessible-route minimum. Whatever length is left is the longest table the room can take. Then check it against your headcount, because a table that seats more people than the room can hold comfortably is the most common mistake buyers make.

Bases change the look and the price. A trestle or panel base gives a clean, modern profile; a four-leg rectangular base reads more traditional and architectural; a tapered three-pedestal base pairs with the sightline top. The 16-foot tables show the choice directly: the panel-base version is the value pick and the four-leg boardroom version is the step up.
Conference table shapes
Shape changes how the room feels and how well people can see each other. The four common shapes are rectangular, tapered, boat-shaped, and racetrack.
Rectangular is the workhorse. It seats the most people for a given footprint and suits almost any boardroom. Tapered (also called a sightline table) narrows toward the ends so no one is blocked by the person beside them, which is why it is a favorite for presentation rooms and video calls. Boat-shaped tables bow outward at the center to give people at the ends a clearer line of sight, and racetrack tables soften a rectangle with rounded ends for easier traffic flow. Our current line focuses on the two shapes that fit the most boardrooms, rectangular and tapered. We do not yet make boat-shaped or racetrack tables.
Power, data, and cable management
A conference table earns its keep when the cables disappear. The 8-foot model ships with a built-in recessed power, USB, and data module set into the top, with an internal wire chase and a management basket below. The 10, 12, and 16-foot tables are engineered for an optional power module, the 20-foot boardroom table includes recessed power, USB, and data modules as standard, and the panel and pedestal bases hide the routing in a center channel between sections.
