Meeting table questions, answered

How many people fit at a small meeting table?

A 42-inch round or square table seats four comfortably and squeezes five. A 48-inch round seats four to six. An 8-foot rectangular table seats eight. Round tables seat slightly more than square ones at the same nominal size because nobody loses a corner, and they suit conversation better because everyone can see everyone.

Round or square for a huddle room?

Round for discussion, square for work. A round table has no head, which flattens the conversation and is why it suits one-on-ones, interviews, and small reviews. A square table gives each person a defined edge, which is better when everyone has a laptop and paper. In a tight room, a round table also gives you back the corners you would otherwise lose to walking clearance.

What room size do I need?

Measure from the table edge to the wall. Leave at least 3 feet so chairs pull out, and 4 feet if people need to walk behind seated guests. For a 42-inch round table that puts the room at about 9 ft 6 in square at the minimum and 11 ft 6 in square with room to walk behind. For an 8-foot rectangular table, plan about 14 ft x 9 ft 6 in at the minimum and 16 ft x 11 ft 6 in with room to walk behind. If the room has a door swinging inward, add its arc to the clearance on that side.

How is a meeting table different from a conference table?

Mostly scale and base. Meeting tables are single-pedestal or X-base tables sized for two to eight people in a huddle room or breakout space, and they ship as one piece. Conference tables start at 8 feet, use trestle, panel, or four-leg bases, and the longer ones arrive in sections that bolt together. Same surface material, same warranty, different room.

Do small meeting tables come with power?

Not as listed. Every table in this collection ships without power, which keeps the price down on a table that usually sits near a wall outlet anyway. The 8 foot rectangular table is the one built with wiring in mind: its base carries a wire management trough, and you can specify a grommet and its location when you order.

If you do need power in the tabletop, we can build it in. A powered grommet can be set into the surface, and whether it works on a given table depends on the size of the top and which base it sits on, so tell us the table you want and where you want the power and we will confirm it. Two of the 42 inch round tables can also take a powered base instead.

Either way, ask before you order rather than after. Power is specified at build time, not added to a finished table.

What does shipping cost and what is the warranty?

Free curbside and dock freight shipping to the continental US. Inside delivery and white-glove placement are available as add-ons. Every table carries a 15-Year Warranty with tiered coverage by component.

Meeting table buying guide: sizes, shapes, and rooms

Sizing a small meeting table

Small meeting tables fail in one of two ways: too big for the room, or too small for the meeting. Both are avoidable in about five minutes with a tape measure.

Measure the room, then subtract the circulation on every side people walk: 36 inches of clear path measured from the back of a pulled-out chair, the federal accessible-route minimum. Whatever rectangle is left is your maximum table footprint. In most huddle rooms that lands you at a 42 or 48-inch round, which is why those two sizes exist.

Then check it against the meeting. Four people at a 42-inch round have enough elbow room for laptops and a coffee each. Five is possible and slightly tight. Six wants the 48-inch. Past six, you are into an 8-foot rectangular table and a bigger room.

Base type changes how many people actually fit. A single central pedestal keeps every seat free of legs, so a four-seat table genuinely seats four. An X-base spreads its feet wider near the floor, which looks lighter and is more stable on carpet, but the feet can catch a chair caster on a very tight pull-in. Both are represented here; if the room is small enough that chairs will be pushed hard against a wall, the pedestal is the safer pick.

Height is 29 inches across the collection, the same as a desk and a conference table, so any standard task or guest chair works. A standard chair seat sits 17 to 18 inches off the floor, leaving about 12 inches of clearance for armrests.
