A counter height community table with a lower counter at one end

This counter height community table runs 96-11/16 inches long and 36 inches deep at 35-5/16 inches high, and a second, lower counter attaches to one end: 36 by 36 inches at 29 inches high, inside the 28 to 34 inch work-surface range in the 2010 ADA Standards (section 902.3). End to end the piece is 132-11/16 inches long. The top and end panels of the main table are 1-1/8 inch thick high-pressure laminate, top over end panel; the end counter is thermally-fused laminate, fixed to the table end with a bracket. Made to order in the USA.

02 · Description

Cabinets and cubbies along the storage side

Three inserts fill the storage side of the main table, each 32 inches wide and 18 inches deep: a buffet cabinet at each end with two box drawers over two hinged doors and an adjustable shelf, and four open cubbies in the center bay for the things people grab on the way past. Four drawers, four doors, four cubbies. That makes it a counter height table with cubbies and closed storage in one base, which is what a breakroom or a library commons needs when the same table serves coffee at nine and a project review at two. On the other long side the top overhangs a recessed modesty panel by 11-7/8 inches, the side with room for counter-height seating.

The lower counter

The 29 inch end counter is what makes this an ADA counter height table and not only a counter height collaboration table: it gives a seated-height place at the same table, for a wheelchair user or anyone who would rather sit in a chair. The standard also asks for a 30 by 48 inch clear floor space at the counter and an accessible route to it, which is the room's job, not the table's.

What it’s made of

The top and end panels of the main table are high-pressure laminate (HPL) with a PVC edge; the storage inserts and the end counter are thermally-fused laminate. Clear-coat protection, water and scratch resistant, built for daily use.

Does the lower counter meet ADA height?

It is built to the work-surface height in the 2010 ADA Standards: 29 inches, inside the 28 to 34 inch range in section 902.3, on a 36 by 36 inch top. A counter height table with ADA counter still depends on the room to meet the standard, with a 30 by 48 inch clear floor space at the counter and an accessible route to it.

Does it have power?

No power unit is in this configuration. An in-surface power unit can be specified at build time; ask before ordering and we will quote it.

What comes included?

The one-piece top, the two end panels with the recessed modesty panel, the two buffet cabinets, the cubby insert, and the end counter with its bracket: a counter height collaboration table and its lower counter in one order. The stools, laptops and cups in the photos are props and are not included.

How much room does it need?

132-11/16 inches end to end with the lower counter, 36 inches deep. Allow room for seating along the overhang side, space on the storage side to pull drawers and open doors, and clear floor space at the lower counter.

How does it ship?

By freight on pallets, as large factory-built pieces: the one-piece top, the two end panels, the modesty panel, the three storage inserts and the end counter with its bracket. It is not flat-pack. The pieces connect on site. Measure doorways and elevators before ordering, because the main top arrives in one piece at 8 feet long.
