This 108 inch station is built for both, which is the whole point of an ada compliant reception desk. The main desk runs 72 inches at transaction height with 1-7/8 inch thick panels, and a dedicated ADA section extends the run with a 36 inch wide accessible surface, its front panel inset 2 inches.

02 · Description

The accessible section is built in, not bolted on

The ADA section matches the desk's 1-7/8 inch panel construction, and its modesty panel is recessed 19 inches, leaving open knee clearance so a seated visitor can pull all the way up to the surface. The inset front means no panel edge between the visitor and the desk. That is what separates a purpose-built ADA reception desk from a standard desk with a shelf added later: it reads as one continuous piece of furniture, because it is.

The standing side still works like a front desk

A hang-on transaction counter rides above the main shell's panel line, giving standing visitors a 48 inch ledge for sign-ins. Behind the panels, the receptionist gets the full work surface, a box-box-file pedestal that locks with a key, and a grommet passing cables cleanly through the surface.

Is this reception desk ADA compliant?

Yes, on its dimensions. The section is built to the 2010 ADA Standards section 904.4 counter dimensions: 36 inches long, 29 to 30 inches high, with knee and toe space to section 306 (19 inches deep, 27 inches high, 34 inches wide), which also meets California's 34 inch limit. Compliance of the lobby also depends on a 30 by 48 inch clear floor space at the section and an accessible route to the desk, so confirm those with your architect or inspector.

What is an ADA counter on a reception desk?

It is a lowered, open-front section of the reception desk that a seated or wheelchair-using visitor can roll up to and use comfortably. On this desk it is a 36 inch wide surface with 19 inches of recessed knee clearance, built into the same run as the standing-height counter.
